Paced by three starters finishing the 54-hole competition at 11-under par or better, the Loyola Marymount men’s golf team (-47 for the tournament) staved off a strong push by Washington State to win the 2023 edition of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at True Blue Golf Club.
Riley Lewis (-15), Tony Hendricks (-11) and Mason Snyder (-11) each turned in top-seven individual finishes to help the Lions secure the one-stroke team title over their West Coast rival. The trio led a furious push that resulted in the team’s 30-under performance over the tournament’s final 36 holes.
Western Carolina (-42), Arkansas State (-36) and Wright State (-24) rounded out the top five finishing squads.
True Blue and sister course Caledonia are regular hosts of Golfweek-sponsored collegiate competitions as the Mike Strantz designs provide a stern test each year to many of the NCAA’s top golf squads. The men’s division of the 2023 Golfweek Fall Challenge was contested over 54 holes of stroke play at True Blue, with the par-72 design playing at 6,988 total yards.
Joining the aforementioned squads in men’s Golfweek Fall Challenge play this year were Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Richmond, Charleston Southern, Stephen F. Austin State, New Orleans, Presbyterian and Eastern Kentucky.
