Whether it’s an event involving vacationing golfers, competitive juniors or college-level club teams, True Blue Golf Club has proven time and again to be the ultimate location for hosting competitive tournaments.
For years, True Blue has been a mainstay participant in the PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship, filling its tee sheet annually with visitors from around the globe. The World Am brings more than 3,000 visiting golfers each year to play four rounds from among dozens of participating Grand Strand courses – and for those lucky enough to have True Blue as part of their rotation, they leave our renowned Mike Strantz design with memories of a lifetime.
A few months later, True Blue annually hosts the Myrtle Beach Fall Classic. Smaller in scale than the World Am with two-person teams competing in a variety of daily formats, the Fall Classic attracts more than 300 golfers to play in the event each year to True Blue, as well as 11 other premium golf courses across the Myrtle Beach area. This tournament caters to the visitors whose home fall golf seasons have already drawn to a close, and there’s no better place than True Blue to keep their golf season going a bit longer!
True Blue is also a regular proving ground for competitive junior golfers. The Palmetto Championship is a three-day high school tournament that is hosted here and at sister course Caledonia, with teams from all over the country and even some from Canada traveling in just to have the chance to win this prestigious event. In 2018 we saw Georgia commit Trent Phillips play the Palmetto and shoot a final-round 71 (-1) at True Blue to help lead his team to victory.
Most recently, club golfers from colleges nationwide also came to True Blue to experience competitive golf at a world-class venue with the 2017 Nextgengolf City Tour Championship.Twelve teams from around the country came to Pawleys Island for an experience that also included a pre-championship registration party featuring a DJ, barbecue dinner, skills challenges and even a surprise visit from rising PGA TOUR player Harold Varner III.
